Primary Sources on Copyright (1450-1900)
“This is a digital archive of primary sources on copyright from the invention of the printing press (c. 1450) to the Berne Convention (1886) and beyond. The UK Arts and Humanities Research Council
(AHRC) funded the initial phase (completed in 2008) focusing on key materials from Renaissance Italy
(Venice, Rome), France, the German speaking countries, Britain and the United States.
We are now adding materials from other countries. Primary sources from Spain were published in 2012, and the Netherlands will follow in 2014. Using the archive for the first time? A possible starting point is here.
For each of the geographical zones / jurisdictions, a national editor has taken responsibility for selecting, sourcing, transcribing, translating and commenting documents. These include privileges, statutes, judicial decisions, contracts and materials relating to legislative history, but also contemporary letters, essays,
treatises and artefacts.
The national editors’ brief was to limit the selection to 50 core documents for Germany, France, Britain and Spain, and to 20 core documents for Italy and the US (these covering only a shorter period). However, the editors have sourced many more contextual documents which are fully catalogued, and linked to the core
materials. Document selection has been scrutinised by an international advisory board.”

Bibliography of Typography and Printing
This is my personal list of recommended books on Typography and Printing,
chosen to help the student, amateur printer, and the professional graphic
artist learn more about type and design. I have selected these books because I think they are the best books on Typography and Book design, the most interesting books on Printing and Typography, and the most useful books on Typography and Printing. I’ve thrown in my favorite books on printing types and the history of printing, too. I’ve read all these books and I’d be happy to answer questions about them if I can help.

The Evolution of the Modern Book:
Understanding the Future of the Printed Word
in the Context of Fine Printing Presses and Artists Books
Elisabeth Schyberg
Sound Ideas
From the Abstract:
“In this digital age, it is easy to predict that print is dead and soon people will be reading nothing but e-books. I wanted to explore the world of fine printing presses and artists’ books, where print is still very much alive, to see what this sector thinks about the future of the physical book. I visited several fine presses and book artists in Northern California and England, as well as some libraries with unique examples of these kinds of books. I read books and articles about the place of the physical book in today’s society. My initial thought was that people who are involved in the process of making books that are works of art will feel very strongly about e-books and the encroachment of technology into the printed world. However, I found a much more varied response than I was expecting: after the press visits and reading relevant literature, there is no overwhelming outcry against e-books from those who love the physical book. Rather, some who spend their lives with books have realized the benefits of e-books and have embraced their possibilities, while others see fine press books and e-books coexisting side by side indefinitely because of their vast disparities.”

Off campus, to have access to this feature, one CANNOT go
directly to Google Scholar and use it. One must go to
Temple University Library’s list of databases and select
Google Scholar from that list. It will facilitate matters if on
the same internet browser, one has already logged into a
Temple proprietary database already. Once one has gone to
