Recent research led by the University of California, Los Angeles shows that taking a short walk each day can help to keep the brain healthy, supporting the overall resilience of cognitive functioning.

As we grow older, memory problems can begin to set in. These could be a natural part of aging and a minor annoyance, but in some cases, the issues may indicate mild cognitive impairment and could even develop into dementia.

Regardless of how mild or severe these memory problems may be, they are definitely distressing and can affect an individual’s quality of life.

New research from the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at the University of California, Los Angeles suggests that there is a relatively easy way of keeping your brain in top shape as you grow older: take a moderately long walk every day.

This could boost your attention, the efficiency with which you process information, and other cognitive skills, say first study author Prabha Siddarth and colleagues.

The research findings were recently published the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Exercise is a vital part of daily life for all people who want to stay fit and healthy. For people with Parkinson’s disease, however, it is more than just about staying healthy. For them, the right exercises can improve vital aspects of daily living, such as mobility and maintaining balance.
In this article, we examine why exercise benefits people with Parkinson’s disease (PD), and how it affects the brain. We also take a look at some examples and tips for exercising with the condition.

Why is exercise good for people with PD?

The Parkinson’s Foundation say there is growing evidence of the short and long-term benefits of exercise for people with PD.

A study, known as the Parkinson’s Outcomes Project, by the same organization, found that people with PD who did exercise for at least 2.5 hours a week experienced a slower decline in their mobility and quality of life than others.

One of the main benefits of exercise for people with PD is symptom management. This includes improvement of:

walking
balance
tremors
flexibility
grip strength
motor coordination
posture
stiffness

Hi can someone please tell me what are the natural ways to avoid 
dehydration related injuries. Like i have noticed that despite drinking 
lots of water i tend to get muscle cramps much earlier than my team mates. 
Moreover, are there pills or drinks which would help me avoid 
this?Drinking a lot of water and Gatorate does ot seem to work for me, 
although for some of my friends it tends to be enough.  _._,_._,_

Alleged Abuse [Policies for Handling Child Sexual Abuse Cases]

We had a prosecutor come talk to us about this very issue just this week in a presentation that had social workers, child life specialists, sexual assault nurses, forensic interviewers from Children’s protective services and physicians present and all gave some good info.

For our ED, we have a stepwise approach: 1.the patient and parent check in with chief complaint. (Little to no details taken just yet).

2. The Social worker is immediately called who then talks to the parent alone and gets the story and history and if the patient is old enough or an adolescent, will get history.

3. The case is hotlined accordingly. If an acute injury is suspected or present, the social worker notifies the physician right away.

4. The physicians don’t ask any history about the events and does more of a medical screen and past medical history. If bruising or injuries seen on exam, photos are taken that go directly into our child abuse database photos that our Child Abuse specialists look at daily and make recommendations such as “the patient needs a forensic interview to be set up with a child forensic interviewer who specializes in children interviews.” This will often be set up within the next couple of days. We limit the story being told to the social worker only as often as we can.

5. If police needs to be called, they come and interview the parent alone and get their own story. We again try to limit them asking the children any questions if possible since they may have a forensic interview set up and the prosecutors can use that interview as part of their case. Parents can be asked as many times as long as everyone quotes things being said by parent and not the child.

6. After all the players have all their key info given to them by the social worker or parent, the patient is sent home or admitted accordingly with follow up in the appropriate location.

Moore, Trump and the Rights New Religion

For the three decades that followed, I could count on one thing: the conservative right was the religious right. That was its branding, if not always its behavior. It was as if the foot soldiers for the conservative right had read only half of the Bible they thumped. They were harsh and vindictive like the God of the Old Testament, not generous and inclusive like the Jesus of the New Testament.

Then there were the hypocrites, condemning sexual liberation while being secretly lascivious, their railing against gays later exposed as a form of gay panic.

But now, all the pretense of any moral majority and moral authority has vanished into the very impulses that fed it: Tribal racial/ethnic anxiety, panic and hostility, patriarchy and sexism, and a perceived threat presented by the full acceptance and inclusion of L.G.B.T. identities.

Piety is now postscript. The principal motivation now is anger, fear of cultural displacement, and anxiety about the erosion of privilege and the guarantees it once provided, from physical safety to financial security.

You can peg any number of moments in recent history when the objective seemed to change for the members of the religious right, where they swallowed all pride and principle to secure power and vent anger, but for me there is none more glaring than the embrace of Donald Trump.

Trump is clearly not a religious man, unless you believe being compulsively devilish is a form of religiosity. He is mean and surly. He is a bully. He is a pathological liar. He cheats. He is an adulterer. He is twice-divorced with children by three different women. He bragged, on tape, about assaulting women. He says he doesnt think he has ever asked God for forgiveness.

Trump was a walking, talking rebuke of everything the Christian right had ever told me that it stood for, and yet Republican voters either held their noses or thrust their fists in the air and voted for him anyway.

The anger that gave birth to Trump was a death notice for Republican religious principles. Now, if you ask me what the Republican Party stands for, Im not sure I can tell you. All I see is regression, wealth worship, nationalism and white supremacy. Maybe thats it. I no longer see Christ in
that equation.

In the wake of all that, we now have the former Alabama Supreme Court judge Roy Moore running for the U.S. Senate as a Republican. Moore has been accused by multiple women in Alabama of having inappropriate sexual contact with them when they were still minors and he was in his 30s, working as a district attorney.

Not to mention the people interviewed by The New Yorker who say that Moore was banned from a local mall for harassing girls.

What has been most distressing and revelatory is the contortions Moores supporters have put themselves in to try to defend him against the allegations.

If Alabama voters on Tuesday elect Roy Moore to the Senate, the Donald Trump-diseased party once known as the Republicans may as well call themselves Roypublicans.

There will be no way to shake the stench of this homophobic, Islamophobic, sexist, racist apologist and accused pedophile. He is them, and they are him. Any pretense of tolerance and egalitarianism, already damaged by a Republican history of words and deeds, will be completely obliterated.

There will be no way to simply say that Moore is the abominable outgrowth of Alabama voters anger.

Moore has been fully endorsed by the Republican president of the United States, the leader of his party, and is now fully supported by the Republican National Committee. Last week, R.N.C. Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel told CNN: The president has said we want to keep this seat Republican. The R.N.C. is the political arm of the White House, and we want to support the presidents agenda.

The pre-Trump Republican Party is dead; The zombie Trump party now lives in its stead, devoid of principle, feasting on fear and rage, foreign to moral framing.

Trump was the gateway to the Roypublicans.

When supposedly religious conservatives were able to look past Trumps bullying, his clear lack of religious conviction, his appearance in pornos, his lying, his provocations to violence, his adultery, his three marriages and his professed taped propensity for sexual assault, they became blind to bawdiness. That was when the hands that toted the Bibles stopped towing its line.

Now, unmoored from any fundamental morality, Republicans have a situation where a professed horndog is boosting an accused pied piper.

Republicans have surrendered the moral high ground they thought they held, and have dived face-first into the sewer.

The Trump agenda is the Republican agenda: hostility to women and minorities, white supremacy and white nationalism, xenophobia, protectionist trade policies, tax policies that punish the poor and working class and people living in blue states.

Even the orchestration of Trumps weekend appearances was replete with the symbolism of racial disdain.

Does Trump not believe that observers register the compounding offense of showing up to deliver a speech at the opening of a civil rights museum already offensive because of Trumps history, rhetoric and policies a day after holding a political rally for a man who holds forth the days of slavery as halcyon days?

The Federal Demonstration Partnership is a cooperative initiative among 10 federal agencies and 154 institutional
recipients of federal funds for Phase VI. Our Chair and Vice-Chair are Cynthia Hope from the University of Alabama
and Dr. Sandra Schneider from the University of South Florida. The FDP is a program convened by the
Government-University-Industry Research Roundtable of the National Academies. Its purpose is to reduce the
administrative burdens associated with research grants and contracts. The interaction between FDP’s 450 or so
university and federal representatives takes place in FDP’s 3 annual meetings and, more extensively, in the many
collaborative working groups and task forces that meet often by conference calls in order to develop specific work
products.

The FDP is a unique forum for individuals from universities and nonprofits to work collaboratively with federal agency
officials to improve the national research enterprise.

Mission

The Federal Demonstration Partnership (FDP) is an association of federal agencies, academic research institutions
with administrative, faculty and technical representation, and research policy organizations that work to streamline the
administration of federally sponsored research. FDP members of all sectors cooperate in identifying, testing, and
implementing new, more effective ways of managing the more than $15 Billion in federal research grants. The goal of
improving the productivity of research without compromising its stewardship has benefits for the entire nation.

The FDP uniquely offers a forum for individuals from universities and nonprofits to work collaboratively with federal
agency officials to improve the national research enterprise. At its regular meetings, faculty and administrators talk
face-to-face with decision-makers from agencies that sponsor and regulate research. They hold spirited, frank
discussions, identify problems, and develop action plans for change. Then – again working jointly – they test the
new ways of doing things in the real world before putting them into effect.

Membership

There are four types of FDP membership: Research Institutions, Emerging Research Institutions, Federal Agencies
and Affiliate Organizations. The solicitation for membership in the Federal Demonstration Partnership Phase VI was
issued on February 18, 2014. FDP Phase VI formally began with an inaugural meeting September 11-12, 2015 in
Washington, DC and will conclude September 30, 2020. No new Institutional Members will be added after the initial
selection, although non-members are welcome to attend meetings. More information on Phase VI activities,
conditions of membership, and membership categories may be found in the original Phase VI solicitation.
